Standard 52 card deck, plus a tarot deck.
Separate the 22 Major Arcana (Listed Below) from the tarot deck. Shuffle the 52 card deck, and separately shuffle the tarot cards. From the main deck deal each player 5 cards face down, and place 5 cards in the middle face up, to be used as the common cards. From the tarot deck, deal each player three cards.
Players randomly determine who is going first. Each player looks at both their hands. Starting with the player chosen to go first, players take turns choosing to either pass, or play an arcana card. If a player wishes to use an arcana card on a card from their hand, they must place it face up on the table while they play the arcana. Arcana can be played on any of the common cards, and any face up cards on either side of the field. If a player passes they take no action, and allow their opponent an opportunity to play another arcana card,if their opponent plays an arcana card then they have another opportunity to pass or play. The round ends when both players pass one after the other.
At the end of the round both players make the best 5 card hand from any number of shared cards and the cards in their hand. The winning player is decided and they are awarded 2 points. Each player is then awarded points depending on their final hand with any additional score arising from arcana cards. The points for each hand are listed below.
Flush 5 (Five cards of matching suit and value) - 6 points
Flush House (Five cards of matching suit where 3 are of matching value and 2 are of a different matching value) - 5 points
5 of a kind - 5 Points
Straight Flush - 4 points
4 of a kind - 4 points
Full House - 3 points
Flush - 3 points
Straight - 3 points
3 of a kind - 2 points
2 pair -2 points
Pair - 1 point
High Card - 1 point
The first player to reach 30 points wins. In the event that both players reach 30 points in the same round the player with the highest total points will win. If both players have the same number of points, sudden death will be entered and play will continue until one player achieves a lead in points.
After scoring at the end of each round, the standard cards are all shuffled back into the deck and each player is dealt a new 5 card hand and a new set of common cards are placed down. All used arcana cards are placed in the discard pile. Players retain any unused arcana cards, the winner of the previous round draws one arcana card, and the loser draws two. If after drawing a player has more than 5 arcana cards they must discard until they have no more than 5. Once the arcana deck is empty, or players would, draw or look at more cards than remain in the deck, the discarded arcana are shuffled back into the arcana deck.
